Glossary
Anorgasmia Difficulty in reaching orgasm for both men and women, after sufficient sexual stimulation. This is a much more common sexual issue than imagined, with as many as 1 in 10 women experiencing difficulties reaching orgasm. Psychosexual Therapy is the required treatment and is often successful.
Inhibited Sexual Desire Also known to as Hypoactive Desire Disorder (HSDD) a loss of interest in sexual fantasies and sexual desire that results in distress. There are many reasons for loss of desire, both physical, psychological and relational. Psychosexual and Couples therapy is a desired treatment plan, after physical issues have been discounted by your GP.
Rapid Ejaculation Previously known as Premature Ejaculation, PE is a lack of ejaculatory control. RE is defined by a man climaxing sooner than he desires. It is a condition experienced by most men at some point in their lives. Psychosexual Therapy has a successful outcome in most cases.
Delayed Ejaculation Also known as Retarded Ejaculation, RE the inability of a man to climax. It is the third most common sexual issue for men. It is nearly always caused by psychological issues. And it is a condition that often requires long term psychosexual therapy.
Erectile Dysfunction Also known as Impotence, ED is the inability to get or sustain an erection during sexual intercourse. It is the most common sexual issue for men, with most having experienced it by the age of 45. There are different physical and psychological causes. Psychosexual Therapy is extremely effective. Sex therapy is also useful when there is a medical cause of ED, such as Diabetes, helping couples re-educate their sex lives.
Female Sexual Dysfunction Persistent or reoccurring issues with sexual response. As many as 4 in 10 women may experience it at some point in their lives. The good news is many of the different causes are treatable with psychosexual therapy.
Dyspareunia Painful sex due to physical and/ or psychological issues. Once your have been cleared by your GP / hospital for physiological causes, psychosexual therapy is the desired next step in treatment.
Vaginismus Involuntary spasm of the muscles surrounding the entrance of the vagina, which blocks any object (tampon, finger) entering it. This makes penetration / sex impossible. Psychosexual therapy can help a woman overcome the psychological causes of this often long suffering condition.
